Back Again

Can't believe it's almost a year since I last posted on my blog, I've not had a good year, have been very low and under treatment and therapy, this bipolar depression has let me down once again. However I've been feeling so much better since Christmas and have recently started an Art Journal which is very therapeutic, slapping paint around is what I love. I'm also doing a Fat Book swap on KCUK and enjoying that. Consequently I've got loads of pictures to upload, I'll try and do a few a day and start with some of the Fat book pages I've done.

Not been blogging for a while now or done much in the way of crafting except for some mixed media art. Depression hit me like a stone and I've had to force myself to do things, thing is when I force myself to do anything I feel more creative than other times. I haven't scanned or photographed my latest projects but here is some I did a while ago. The above is an ATC which I did for a Swap I did on Katies Corner http://groups.yahoo.com/group/katyscorneruk/ I used a Tim Holz http://timholtz.typepad.com/my_weblog/ number background UM and a Paper Artsy http://shop.paperartsy.co.uk/index.asp Um. The tag was made for a swap and I used Ferro dimentional paste http://www.paperartsy.co.uk/pdfs/Ferro.pdf on grungeboard for the background, I then stamped into it using a text stamp and a PaperArtsy scroll um I then painted it with Luminnaire paints

Lots to Do Challenge

The challenge on the Lots To Do challenge blog on Saturday was to make a tag using a different shape than is usual. I used a Nestabilities label die to cut mine out of chipboard, I then did the background using Viva Ferro paste then stamped into it with a flourish stamp and a text um, and dabbed on various acrylic paints till I got the effect I want. The method is on Paper Artsy Blog and I just love this technique. The main image is from A plate of ums from The Artistic Stamper. I added an eyelet , beads, prima flower and fibres from my stash.

Cat Arch for Something Completely Different

This is my Cat Gothic Art for this weeks challenge on Something Completely Different. I've recently received an order from Paper Artsy and have had fun playing. The background I did by applying a thick coat of Viva Ferro paste, I then sprayed 2 different stamps with water and stamped into it. I painted over this when dry with acrylic paints until I got the desired effect. It is not my idea, Leandra from PaperArtsy has an excellent video on her blog paperartsy.co.uk/blog/blog.html. All the stamps I used are from Paper Artsy as is the paint and chip board arch.

Black and White Mingle card

Made this card a few weeks ago but was waiting until my partner for the mingle on Katies Corner Group received her card. The mingle was to make a black and white card for your partner. I stamped the main image in versark twice on one image I put black embossing powder and on the other I used white embossing powder then cut each image in two and matched 2 different pieces together. The image was from a plate of Ums from Hearts in Touch and the background a texture plate from Carolines rubberstamps was embossed in white on black card. I added some pima flowers with a designer brad fom a set I got as a gift

Glad to say I seem to have got my mojo back, have been busy crafting this last week, these are some of the projects I've completed. The crane card is one I made a while ago, I got the stamp from my Advent Swap partner Darlene on Katies Corner group and is coloured in with Promarkers, thought she might appreciate a card using the the stamp she sent me. I used a Crafty Individuals stamp for the main image on the second card and several text stamps on the background, the background is done by sponging on Adirondaks inks and I used a Cuttlebug flourish to finish it of

Have had a frustrating hour trying to figure out what I would like to stamp but I seem to have lost my mojo. Having said that I have made several cards recently so thought it about time to upload some of them.

The first card is done using a Stamp Club image froma a chocolate themed plate.

The second card is one of my current favourite stamps from http://www.craftyindividuals.co.uk/ I did the background with Glimmer Mist and used a branch mask, the corners are from a cuttlebug dye and are cut out from chipboard on which I put Adirondaks black dabber paint.

On the third card the main image is a stamp I got ages ago from the http://www.thestampman.co.uk/and is by a company called Just for Fun. I distessed the background paper with Adirondak inks including Butterscotch. The lace and buttons are from my stash.

Christmas Cards

Am busy, busy at the moment doing Christmas cards just got 7 done and need to do at least another 20. I'm not fond of the run up to Christmas, too much stress and worry . I do love Christmas Eve and Christmas day when all the shops are closed.

My Life Lately

Long time since I blogged, life has just got in the way. I've been creating on and off but mostly playing with a new computerized sewing machine, I have big plans to do more mixed media products. I have been interested in manipulating textiles for ages but was limited with my old sewing machine, I have no excuse now, this new machine does just about everything.
Recently I did a workshop in making felt the non needle way and loved it, I'd also like to try felting using the needles, I'd love to machine embroider onto my own felt.
The postcard I've uploaded is one I made for my daughter, I got the idea from an article by Jean Hardy from Crafty Individuals although I did my take on to it. I used the method I was taught on free style machine embroidery using chiffon to encase angelina fibres and tiny pieces of mettalic materials, I then free styled some embroidery onto the chiffon and added various bits and beads. The buton I used was one I made using polymer clay. I did 3 postcards altogether but I like this one the best. The image I used was from Paper Artsy. It always reminds me of Kathy in Wuthering Heights

I did this card yesterday initially for Wednesday Stamper's challenge but I never got it posted, not sure it's good enough, any way this is it. I feel as if I'm getting nowhere fast with my stamping lately, it's probably due to a few things; the fact that I have to get on with some swaps and also I heard from the hospital yesterday that my Neuro Surgeon has referred me onto another Neuro man as he feels that he is more experienced in the operation that needs to be done on my spine, apparently it's a very complex operation. I have to go to see him on Tuesday and it's a bit worrying to say the least but I know that if I get into stamping it will take my mind of things

Altered Tin for Wdnesday Stamper Challenge

I did this tin for a challenge on Split Close Stampers about a week ago, it's candy tin, one I use to store my decorative wires in. My daughter loved it and has asked me to do one for her birthday next month. I've been going through a phase of crafting other things rather than cards.
Lo and behold I went on Wednesday Stamper and their challenge is mixed media, well I think my tin qualifies for that. I painted the tin with gesso, then luminnaire paints I then fused some Angelina fibres and stuck this on the top. I stamped the Stitchels images onto tissue paper and stuck this over the top of the tin. The butterfly is stamped onto Claudine Hellmuths sticky backed canvis which is stuck onto crafting metal. The branch is a grunge board flourish.

Think Monday, Think ATC

This is another ATC, this time for a peacock theme on the Think Monday, Think ATC challenge Blog. This will be the first time I have joined a challenge on TMTA. Stamp is from Elusive images and I did the background using Distress inks and I coloured the peacock with H2O's
I've also been working on a notelet holder but am not able to finish it until I buy some velcro dots I sort of cased it from a Technique Blog, more of that when I finish it. I seem to be on a creative roll now funny how that happens and other times I can't seem do anything.

Wednesday Stampers challenge today was to do a Skinny , which is a project sized 5'' by 3'' this is what I did. I cut some mount board in the size required I sponged on distress inks then sprayed with metallic srays and stamped using varies stamps in Stazons' white ink. The main image is a stamp from Katies Corner. I embellished it with a cuttlebug die and added some candy dots then wrapped around the whole piece with some embroidery yarn. I punched 2 holes in the top to add ribbon and a yarn to make it into a wall hanging

Yet another card today. I had a great time using my imagination on this card. The card is for a Turquoise Challenge on Lisa Volraths' blog called Go Make Something. The background is clipart from Lisa. I recoloured it on my computer then stamped over it with stamps from Katys' Corner, the main image is by Cherry Pie stamps and the charms are from my stash.

Cat Card

I made this card following reading a Sunday Challenge Ink on My Fingers Blog. The challenge was to use a cat stamp. This is the only cat stamp I have, I bought it years ago from Clarity Stamps. The background paper is by Anna Griffin but was a bit twee for me so I Inked the paper using butterscotch(my favourite) , rust and red pepper. I then over stamped the paper in Ginger Adirondack using a Katy's corner Swirl, Elusive Images flower and a unknown butterfly. I used Nestabilities to mat and layer the main image and finished it of with flower, oh and the flowers in the background have some of my new Distress Stickles in Antique Gold in the centres.

This is another card I did after reading the challenge on Saturdays workout, still not worked out how to send direct links so it will remain on my blog only. The background is made by covering a card with bits of masking tape then swiping a multicoloured ink pad over, then sponging with adirondack ink then finally embossing the whole thing with clear embossing powder. The stamp I used was a Paper Artsy one. It's my son's birthday on 17th of March, think I'll give him this card.

Can't believe I haven't posted for over a year, not very good at this lark, I've always been the same, have started numerous journals in the past only to eventually dwindle out. Don't know whether I'm just not organised or that I haven't got a lot of time.
In all fairness I have had a few changes to my life in the last year. In August I moved house and what an upheaval that was besides being very expensive, I'm happier in this place and I've now got a little Lakeland terrier, she's gorgeous, although being a rescue dog she has had a few problems which I'm gradually sorting out with a vet who specialises in dog pyschology.
For most of last year I dieted with the help of Weight Watchers and I managed to loose 3 stone, so I'm now a trim size 12 instead of a size 18. Wasn't an easy thing to do especially as I have a back problem which prevents me doing exercise.
My back is especially bad at the moment, I'm having lots of problems walking, apparently the vertebrae are out of alignment and pressing on nerves. I'm to have a Spinal Fusion operation, in which the surgeon puts a metal post and screws in my spinal column to fix one vertebrae to the next. It will stop the affected vertebrae moving in the future and hopefully deal with the pain I'm having. I do hope this is the last spinal operation, I've had 3 previous ops and I don't wan't any more.

I even went off stamping for a while and thought I would concentrate on Textile Art instead but I'm glad to say it was a temporary glitch and I'm back to stamping although still interested in textile art.
It was my birthday last week, another year older, why do the years go so fast the older you get? I went out for a meal with my sister on the day and am going out with my daughter Nicola on Friday night, I'm hoping my son Paul can join us but that's not certain yet.
I'm going to upload a few photographs of my dog to show you how sweet she is.

Not posted for a while seem to have been busy with one thing and another. This is a card I made recently using a technique called Marker Wash which I aquirred from a newsletter by Technique Junkies. I joined a group called Technique Junkies and will get a newsletter from them every other month giving about 13 different techniques. Not shown onthe card is some beading I put along the spine of the cards

Thought I'd create myself a blog, mainly to record the work I do in stamping and other things I intend to do. I'd like to record the progress I am making in my search of my ancestors. Just wish there where more hours in the day, this business of getting older seems to sap the energy out of me and I don't get as much done as I used to. Seem to spend an awful lot of time thinking about what I'd like to do and never getting around to doing it.
I'm a sort of long time member of a group called Katies Corner, it's a rubber stamping group and we chat about what we are doing and swap cards and things, I've just sent off 26 tags for a swap to Cath the moderator she will gather all the various tags together and make a tag book with them. I love the group it is very supportive and I've made loads of friends through it.
Yesterday I joined Technique Junkies which is a American based group, it produces a hard copy of techniques every month and this is sent to the members on alternative months. I was able to access the techniques for October after I joined and am much impressed and even tried one of the techniques last night. It was a background done on dark card which was sprayed with rubbing alchohol then sprinkled with 2 colours of mica powders, then sprayed with alchohol again then dabbed with a pouncing action with scrunched up cellophane wrap. It gives a lovely effect and I intend to make a card with what I did tonight - so watch this space.
